Me Tristan Desjardins

Tristan Desjardins practises criminal, penal and disciplinary law exclusively. He regularly provides counsel to companies, government agencies, leaders and individuals. He has represented these entities before all competent judicial bodies, including the Supreme Court of Canada. He has extensive experience in Criminal Securities Law, Occupational Health and Safety Law, the Court of Appeal in criminal and penal matters, as well as having served in public inquiries. He has received a number of awards of excellence throughout his studies, and his Master’s thesis earned him a place on the Honour Roll of the Faculty of graduate studies and the award for best Master’s law thesis in Quebec.

Professional background

Since the beginning of his careerTristan Desjardins has been involved in many training sessions and speaking events He has been a sessional lecturer at the Université de Montréal and the Université de Sherbrooke, and has published many articles, in addition to authoring two books: Les infractions d’ordre moral en droit criminal canadien and L’appel en droit criminel et pénal. He co-authored Recours et procédure en appel, which won the Walter-Owen Award in 2012, by the Canadian Bar Association, which recognizes the outstanding contribution of a publication to advance law. Governor of the Quebec Bar Foundation, he also co-authored Traité général de preuve et de procédure pénale with the Honourable Justice Martin Vauclair of the Quebec Court of Appeal. Counsel Desjardins’ published work has been cited by the Courts on multiple occasions, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

In 2007, the Young Bar of Montreal Association presented him with the Attorney of the Year in Criminal Law Award. In 2008, he received the Robert-Sachitelle Award from the Association of Defence Attorneys of Montreal. In 2013, the Quebec Association of Defence Attorneys presented him with the Michel-Proulx Award recognizing the excellence of his criminal and penal law practice. In 2014, the Université Laval awarded him the Raymond-Blais medal, which recognizes an alumni member’s distinguished work in their field.
